Kathleen Alexander received her bachelors of Art Degree in Art and Secondary Education from Mary Manse College Toledo, Ohio, in 1973. She also attended the School of Fashion Design in Boston, MA.
Over the past 40 years in Dallas, her name has been associated with many art based children’s programs. Dallas Parks and Recreation is where she created numerous art classes and camps over a period of 14 years. Art Around the World, Clay Play and Creative Beginnings are just a sampling.
Kathleen also created and taught a Summer Art Camp “Art Through People and Places” at the Hockaday School for several summers.
Christ the King School has a special place in her heart. She spent 10 years teaching K-8 art there. Creating curriculum and also serving a year as assistant principal. She was also a part of the Diocese Summer DEBUSK Gifted Program for 6 years. While at Christ the King she was named Teacher of the Year 1997 and also Walmart Teacher of the Year. Her platform “There is Art in Every Heart”….try and spell heart without it, is her coined phrase.
Kathleen has a passion for giving back! Art Stop has given more than 30 scholarships, supports many school auctions, St. Jude’s, Children’s Medical Center Dallas, as well as, Jonathan’s Place , are just a few recipients of her passion.
She has made hiring former students, at the age of 14, as Summer Teen Helpers, part of the Art Stop “MAGIC”.
She has served on the boards of DCT (Co-Chairing “Christmas at the Crescent”), Tejas Girl Scouts, Dallas Children’s Museum, Honoring of People Every Where, DMA Teacher’s Advisory Board, Faculty Woman’s Club of UTSW, Jack and Jill of America, Links Inc., and various church boards.
Kathleen loves the Southwest, is a wife, mother of two and grandmother of 5…and has three Art Stop “adopted” teacher daughters!
